The distribution of different pathogens depends on various factors such as climate, geography, migration, diabetes, acquired immunodeficiency syndrome and peripheral arterial disease. Laboratory diagnosis consists of microscopy to visualize fungal elements (mycelia and spores) in the nail sample and culture to identify the species concerned. Systemic therapy is almost always more successful than topical...

prof.MUDr.Vladimír Palička, CSc., doc.MUDr.Pavel ®ivný, CSc., MUDr.Ladislava Pavlíková

Dermatol. praxi. 2011;5(2):86-88

Strong connections exist between the bone metabolism and skin diseases. Most of the interactions are still not fully described. Any chronic inflammation should be considered as a risk of bone mineral density decline, leading to the increased risk of fractures. Up to now there is no strong consensus about the situation in psoriatic patients and literature is inconsistent. Most of the studies confirm the increased risk of osteoporosis in psoriatic men. Long-term use of glucocorticoids is undoubtedly one of the risk factors for osteoporosis. By giving such kind of therapy the well-timed cooperation of dermatologist and osteologist is very important.
