The Varicella-zoster virus (VZV) belongs to the group of The Human Herpetic Viruses (HHV3), group Herpesviridae, subgroup Alphaherpesvirinae.
They are capsulated DNA viruses. The VZV is the cause of both varicella (chickenpox) and zoster (shingles). Zoster is an infectious
disease, which can appear in every age and both sexes. Zoster is evoked by the reactivation of The Varicella-zoster virus persisted in
sensory cranial ganglia and ganglia of back spinal cornua after finished varicella. Zoster presents with typical skin eruption in affected
dermatomes. Incubation period is from 7 to 14 days. Diagnostics is based on clinical picture. The systemic therapy is established on
specific antiviral, but local treatment is only supplementary. In this article we describe some forms of zoster, diagnostics, differential
diagnosis, therapy, complications and present legislation.
