Diseases of the nails

The objective of the article is to review current knowledge of anatomy, embryology and vascular and nerve supply of the nail unit and

biochemistry of the nail plate. Next part of this paper deals with clinical manifestations of diseases of the nail apparatus. Main topics

are modification in the configuration of the nail, nail surface, nail plate, soft tissue attachments, perionychial tissues and modifications

in the consistency and colour of the nail. Various symptoms and their most common causes are described in detail.
