Gonorrhoea belongs to the classical sexually transmitted diseases. It represents bacterial infection afflicting primarily cylindrical epithel
of urethra, endocervix, pharynx, rectum and conjunctives. It mostly afflicts the population aged between 15 and 35 years. The ascendent
infection can cause the sterility, haematogenous spreading results in disseminated gonococcus infection. The term gonorrhoea is derived
from the combination of old Greek wordsgonos (seed) and rhoein (to flow) (1, 2).
The article consists of two parts. The first one discusses the problems of epidemiology, pathogenesis, diagnostics and therapy of gonorrhoea.
The following parts deals with complications of gonorrhoea in female patients in the form of Bartholini gland abscess.
