Comeback of topical tars

For many decades tars have been used for the treatment of various skin disorders. The article presents the current view on this re-established

topical agent. The results of long term trials focused particularly on the management of psoriasis and atopic eczema confirm that

the coal tar is an effective and safe topical modality. Carcinogenicity of pharmaceutical coal tar was not verified in epidemiological studies.
