Phototherapy in dermatology

Dermatological phototherapy uses ultraviolet, visible and infrared radiation in various indications. Phototherapy can be administered

locally or whole body irradiation is employed. Recently, lasers are being used increasingly. Types of phototherapy, indications and its

combinations with other therapies are reviewed in the article. Side effects of phototherapy, which are distinguished as acute (sunburning)

and chronic (photoaging, photocarcinogenesis) are also discussed.
