Nitrofurantoin has experienced a significant renaissance in use in the past decade. This is particularly due to the increasing resistance of potentially pathogenic microorganisms causing urinary tract infection. Toxic epidermal necrolysis represents an escalated allergic reaction that is predominantly manifested by extensive exfoliation in the area of the skin and mucosae. In the majority of cases, this condition is brought about by the use of some of the medications. Currently, there are over 150 products which are known to be capable of inducing the development of toxic epidermal necrolysis. Despite a thorough analysis of available databases (Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science), we have failed to find a single case report that would describe the development of this syndrome following the use of nitrofurantoin.
