Currently, non-healing wounds are a major socioeconomic problem, and the care of patients with a non-healing wound is a complex interdisciplinary issue, since it is derived from a multidisciplinary focus. In the clinical practice, the process of non-healing wound assessment is still very problematic and inconsistent. The present research was aimed at the issue of documentation of non-healing wounds in the clinical practice in selected inpatient health facilities in the Czech Republic. The goal of the research is to assess and evaluate the methods for non-healing wound assessment in the clinical practice in selected inpatient and outpatient facilities in the Czech Republic. Quantitative research was used to accomplish the goals. The two following research methods have been chosen: the questionnaire method and content analysis of written documents. The respondents are general nurses working in the health facilities contacted for research purposes. The research is of regional relevance, so far being undertaken in four hospitals in the South Bohemia Region and in Prague. As of now, 500 questionnaires have been distributed and processed data have been evaluated from 284 questionnaires. So far, 30 medical records from hospital and outpatient facilities have been analysed. Data collection is still underway. The preliminary results of the questionnaire survey are very positive in terms of the respondents’ opinions on the importance of using wound assessment scales, describing the patient’s general condition in determining pain, and the like. However, these results do not correspond with the content analysis which gives evidence of failure to use assessment scales, algorithm for assessment of non-healing wounds, evaluation of pain, etc.
