Herpes zoster (HZ) is a clinical sign of reactivation of latent Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) infection. Unilateral segmental herpetic eruption in adjacent skin dermatome is typical. Varicella, chickenpox/smallpox, is primary infection. HZ and varicella are two distinct diseases caused by a single agent, VZV. It is highly infectious, its incubation period is long, therefore VZV infections are one of the most common infectious diseases reported in Czech republic. Occurrence of varicella is a disease typical for children (maximal incidence up to 10 years), on the other hand HZ is typically a disease of elderly people (over 50 years). In our clinical report we describe a case of 9months old boy with HZ. HZ is in children, infants, very rare and its clinical course is mild, with lower risk of complications and postherpetic neuralgies. Systemic therapy in children is not necessary. Vaccination is possible either for varicella as well for HZ.
