Burn injuries often result in long-term sequelae, including the formation of scars, which can significantly impact patients' physical and psychological well-being. Managing burn scars is a complex endeavor that requires a comprehensive approach encompassing both surgical and non-surgical interventions. Surgical techniques such as excision, grafting, and tissue expansion play a role in scar management, and aim to optimize function and cosmetic result. However, non-surgical modalities such as pressure garments, silicone-based products, laser therapy, and topical agents also have a vital role in scar reduction and remodeling. This article provides an overview of contemporary strategies in the management of burn scars, exploring the efficacy, indications, and limitations of both surgical and non-surgical interventions. By clarifying the diverse possibilities available to clinicians, this review aims to guide evidence-based decision-making and improve outcomes for patients with burn-related scarring.
