of radiotherapy Basal cell carcinoma (basalioma, BCC) is the most frequent non-melanoma skin cancer, with a high incidence, but a low mortality rate. It is locally aggressive, with advanced tumours being capable of significantly destroying the surrounding tissue; however, metastases are very rare. The treatment of BCC depends on the tumour size and type. Surgical treatment is the most common choice. Other options include the administration of liquid nitrogen (cryodestruction) or the administration of imiquimod (Aldara cream). In extensive and destructive foci, Erivedge biological therapy is currently available. It is registered by the European Medicines...

The Human Genome Project was aimed at reading the sequences of the entire human nuclear DNA. Currently, the sequence of more than one thousand human genomes is known, with qualified estimates giving the number at 20,488 genes. The database includes the genes of an “average individual” of a given species because the analysis always uses samples from numerous people. Every human body cell carries our genetic heritage and creates what is called the first genome. The microbiome (microflora) is an ecological community of commensal, symbiotic, and pathogenic microorganisms that share our body space. The microbiome is of vital importance for the...

Chronic venous disease (CVD) represents a major health problem, as its prevalence is high – up to 84% of population including patients with clinical stage C0 (Vein Consult Programme, 2012). Venoactive drugs (VAD) are a basic conservative treatment of CVD. New guidelines for the treatment of CVD were published in 2014. There are changes in classification of VAD based on their safety and efficacy. Micronized purified flavonoid fraction (MPFF) is now the only VAD with grade 1B (a strong recommendation based on moderate evidence). Rutosides, red wine leaves extracts, calcium dobesilate, horse chestnut seed extract and Ruscus extract are all given...

Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are infections spread by sexual intercourse. Adolescents initiating sex early, experimenting sexually, and neglecting their health are a risk group. The incidence of STDs has been increasing in the Czech Republic in recent years. Some of these diseases are compulsorily notifiable. Until 2010, syphilis was the most commonly occurring of these diseases, followed by gonorrhoea. Since 2011, there has been in increase in the rates of gonorrhoea infection that have even exceeded those of syphilis infection. The article particularly deals with the compulsorily notifiable STDs.

Up to 80 % of patients with psoriasis may have scalp lesions. Infliction in this localisation has substantial impact on quality of life, not only because of visibility, but also because of unpleasant subjective symptoms and resistance to treatment. We demonstrate a case with severe scalp psoriasis, successefully treated with clobetasol proprionate foam.

Nitrofurantoin has experienced a significant renaissance in use in the past decade. This is particularly due to the increasing resistance of potentially pathogenic microorganisms causing urinary tract infection. Toxic epidermal necrolysis represents an escalated allergic reaction that is predominantly manifested by extensive exfoliation in the area of the skin and mucosae. In the majority of cases, this condition is brought about by the use of some of the medications. Currently, there are over 150 products which are known to be capable of inducing the development of toxic epidermal necrolysis. Despite a thorough analysis of available databases (Pubmed,...

Cutaneous B-cell lymphomas There are 3 main types of cutaneous B-cell lymphomas: primary cutaneous marginal zone B- cell lymphoma, primary cutanous follicular center B-cell lymphoma and cutaneous diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, leg type. First two types are quite benign with mean 5-years survival of 95–99%, on the other hand and cutaneous diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, leg type is more agressive with mean 5-years survival rate of 55%. Therapy of cutaneous B-cell lymphoma is multidisciplinary in cooperation with hematooncologists ( chemotherapy, anti-CD20) and radion oncologists (radiotherapy- direct, total surface).
