Chronická žilní insuficience, varixy

V současné době patří žilní onemocnění podle výzkumu Světové zdravotnické organizace k vůbec nejčastějším chorobám. Představují vysoké léčebné a následné náklady, snadno nabývají chronického rázu a zhoršují se natolik, že vedou často až k invaliditě. Přesto jsou žilní nemoci stále ještě považovány spíš, za kosmetický problém a nikoli za chorobu, kterou je třeba brát vážně. Mohou však kromě nevzhledných změn na kůži, křečových žil a bércových vředů, vést v nejhorším případě k nebezpečné trombóze a následně k embolii.
