Acne is the most common disease affecting especially adolescents of all ethnic groups with different incidence. Prevalence is almost 100 % with differences of disease seriousness. The paper describes our experience with chronic staphylococcal pyoderma, acne, both microbial and atopic eczema and recurrent erysipelas treated with bacterial immunomodulators – vaccines. Lyophilized vaccines for oral administration are prepared at the Department of Microbiology, University Hospital and Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, Palacký University Olomouc. At the dermatology department, vaccine therapy has been used with a very good therapeutic effect for over 30 years. The already published results achieved in 1 017 patients have helped to define indications and contraindications for the therapy as well as the vaccine dosage.

Patch testing is a well established method of diagnosing contact allergy and contact allergic dermatitis which is a delayed type of type-IV reaction. The patients are exposed to the suspected allergens for 48 hours, the results examined over the following 24 to 48 hours. It is not easy to interpret the results. The aim of this article is to summarize current information about this investigative technique.

Varicose veins of lower extremities are very frequent illness affecting 20–25 % of women and 10–15 % of men and their incidence is raising with age. Varicose veins along with dental flaw belong to the most frequent illnesses of mankind and represent the problem which is not only cosmetic but maily medical, social and economic. Their occurrence is connected with vertical position and risk factors are also genetic and geographical, profession and life style, pregnancies and overweight.

The extreme prevalence of atopic diseases in developed countries is related to altered colonization of the intestines with commensal microbiota as well as to failure of the mucosal immune system to develop into a tolerogenic, non-inflammatory status. Probiotics and prebiotics may be able to improve this aberrant condition. They represent a complimentary therapeutic approach and particularly the unique opportunity of primary prevention in high-risk subjects.

Their ethiopathogenesis is varied, not always fully clarified or known (idiopathic photodermatoses).
