Cellulitis is an established, although incorrect, term for noninflammatory degenerative changes of the subcutaneous tissue of specific
parts of the female body (particularly the thighs and buttocks as well as the hips, abdomen and/or arms). It is a chronic process with
a progressive tendency. The management of cellulitis requires a multidisciplinary approach. The causes are multifactorial and there is
always co-occurrence of a number of adverse conditions. Currently, cellulitis is included under the diagnosis of lipohypertrophy which,
however, fails to capture its true nature. Perhaps the most apt definition has been given by lymphologist professor Földi who defined it
as a “combined form of chronic insufficiency”.
