Demodex mites are an integral part of human microbiom mostly beeing only harmless bystanders. Under certain cimcurstancesthey can cause mild to severe skin involvement called demodicosis. Primary demodicosis is an illness sui generis. Secondary demodicosisis usually connected with some form of organism´attenuation. Lesions are present mostly on a face, eye lids and in earcanals. For setting a diagnosis mostly only anamnesis and clinical checkup are enough. In unclear cases a microscope investigation, exceptionally a histopathological verification are necessary. For a therapy of demodicosis local and peroral treatments can beused. Basic local treatments are medronidazol, ivermectin, sulphur and azelaic acid. Perorally mostly metronidazol, exceptionallyantibiotics and isotretinoin can be used. With a secondary demodicosis for a successfull therapy elimination or at least minimalisationof a causal factor is necessary.
