How to examine and support microcirculation in pactients with diabetic foot

MUDr. Pavlína Piťhová, Ph.D.
Interní klinika 2. LF UK a FN v Motole, Praha

Diabetic foot syndrome is a debilitating diabetic complication. The treatment must be complex, containing offloading of the
affected foot, revascularization procedures in presence of ischemia, antibiotic treatment if infection is present, debridement and
proper wound bed preparation and optimal wound care choice. It seems that the most important role in healing process plays
functional microcirculation. In support of microcirculation we can use non-pharmacological (hyperbaric oxygenotherapy, local
physical treatments) and pharmacological methods as alprostadile or sulodexide.

Keywords: diabetic foot, support of microcirculation, alprostadile, sulodexide, hyperbaric oxygentherapy, NPWT therapy
