Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disorder with strong negative impact on quality of life. The goal of the therapeutic methods is reduction of disease activity and clinical symptoms together with minimising of adverse events. The need for therapies that are both effective and safe for long-term continuous use, together with advances in our understanding of the immunopathogenesis of psoriasis, have led to the development of new biological therapies with more selective mechanisms of action and improved safety.

Recent knowledge about the skin barrier and its function confirms its importance in the protection of the organism against adverse environmental factors. This protection lies in the regulation of penetration of chemical substances,in the protection against bacterial and fungal infections as well as against the adverse influences of ultraviolet radiation. The disturbance of the barrier function may lead to the development of various disorders of the skin. This article gives the information about factors leading to the barrier function disturbance, about the results of this disturbance as well as about the possibilities of its prevention and barrier...

Psoriatic arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by the manifestations of arthritis and psoriasis. Treatment of the disease is expected to decrease or to suppress the activity of arthritis and enthesitis or to retard the radiological progression and to clear the skin and nail signs of the disease or not to worsen them at least. Standard treatment of psoriatic arthritis includes nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, disease modifying drugs, glucocorticosteroids and TNFα inhibitors. Anti TNFα antagonists, e.g. infliximab, adalimumab and etanercept are agents with different structure, which influence the inflammatory cascade...
