The cutaneous and mucous manifestations of internal diseases – so called dermadromes – are often pathognomonic and their knowledge may accelerate final diagnosis and initiation adequate therapy. The article introduces overview of the skin signs most commonly associated with systemic disorders with the focus on the clinical practice. The skin symptoms of autoimmune and oncological diseases are emphasized.

Atmospheric changes associated with increased penetration of harmful UV radiation require better skin protection with clothing and cosmetics produced especially for this purpose. UV filters should optimally protect skin in ratio 1 : 1 (UVB : UVA). They should be applied on exposed areas 30 minutes before sun exposure and during the day the application should be repeated multiple times. Essentially we should not expose ourselves to sunshine between 10 am and 3 pm and children under 3 years of age should not be exposed at all. Contact allergens as a cause of eczema

Diagnosis of contact eczema is based besides thorough history and careful evaluation of clinical picture on early use of epicutaneous tests that can reveal the proper allergen. Important contact allergens are metals (nickel, chromium, cobalt), plastics (epoxid raisins and acrylates), rubber chemicals (antioxidant N-phenyl-N-isopropylparaphenylendiamin and accelerators of thiurame type), parfumes, propolis, etheric oils (tea tree oil), and plant extracts from family of Compositae.

Sexually transmitted diseases - Part I.

The article gives basic informations about five “classic” sexually transmitted diseases. Gonorrhoea, ulcus molle and granuloma inguinale are bacterial infection, syphilis is caused by spirocheta and lymphogranuloma venereum is chlamydial disease. All of them are spread by sex, they are treated with antibiotics and their therapy and control are legislated.

The principle of chemical methods is surface circumscribed effect of substances described as caustics. The use of these substances, mainly alpha-hydroxy-acid-fruit acids, phenol, and trichloracetic acid, leads to stimulation of regeneration processes in skin. Mechanic abrasion of skin with use of special creams and pastes with abrasive substances is called mechanical peeling.

Crural ulcer

Crural ulcer belongs to diseases with increasing prevalence. It occurs mainly in the elderly population, however it is not exceptional even in young patients. In each age group crural ulcer causes specific medical, economical, social and psychologic problems. These are the reasons for increase attention of medical professionals paid to crural ulcer. The author describes in the article the treatment of crural ulcers including factors that influence healing in chronic wounds. Further on, ethiology and local therapy is discussed. It emphasizes that local therapy is a part of a complex approach to patients with crural ulcers.

Dermatitis perioralis

The pathogenesis of perioral dermatitis is unknown. The disease occurs often in young women. Papules and pusutules on an erythematous and something scaling base are confided to the chin and nasolabial folds. Some of authors proposed that the perioral dermatitis is a cutaneous intolerance reaction linked to constitutionally dry skin. It is precipitated by the regular use of moisurizing creams. Local antibiotics are frequently prescribed but are not very effective.

Clinical manifestation of food allergy (FA) includes noneczematous reactions and it is clear food can provoke flares of atopic eczema (AE), particularly in infants. Cow´s milk and hen´s eggs allergy are the most frequent in children. Inhaled allergens and pollen-related food are greater importance in older children, adolescents and adults. „Classical“ food allergens may worsen eczema not as common as in childhood. The aplication of lasers in dermatology

The article explains the principle of laser procedures. Lasers are used in dermatology because of selective photothermolysis. It means a preferential absorption of electromagnetic radiation in certain tissues. According their purpose we can differentiate lasers for treatment of vessel lesions, pigmentation and tattoos, removal of unwanted hairs, for ablation of skin surface, for acne treatment, and for induction of collagen formation.
