Leg ulcers affect up to 5 % of the population. The most common type is venous leg ulcers followed by mixed and arterial ones. Ulcers of varied aetiology typically have different clinical presentation and, in particular, differ in treatment. While the main therapeutic principle in venous ulcers is elimination of venous hypertension (by external compression or surgically), in arterial ulcers it is necessary to provide adequate perfusion of the periphery with surgical or interventional radiological methods. Each type of treatment requires active cooperation of the patient and has to be initiated in time.

Parasitic skin conditions (epizoonoses) are a group of diseases in which skin changes are induced by parasites living on the skin or near it. The risk consists in impaired skin integrity and giving rise to further infections, particularly viroses and rickettsioses as well as common pyogenic infection (1). Specifically, epizoonoses refer to conditions in which the parasite lives on the skin (e. g. head louse); more generally, epizoonoses include skin manifestations caused by animals not living on the skin (e. g. insect bite) (2). Hygiene is of major importance since inadequate care of the body and a small living space have a favourable effect on parasites.

Vitiligo belongs to the idiopathic disorders of skin pigmentation. Causal treatment is impossible for now and conservative treatment is ineffective with most patients. The surgical treatment can be effective with some patients with the history of ineffective conservative treatment. Many modifications of surgical treatment of vitiligo have apperared during the past few years, from transplantation of fullthickness skin grafts till transplantation of melanocytes expanded by cultivation. The surgical treatment of vitiligo by grafting of autologous noncultured melanocytes in fibrin glue which is used as a cell carrier is described in this article....

Monoclonal gammopathy-associated IgA pemphigus is a debilitating skin disorder with inconsistent response to treatment. A 61-year old female patient with IgA pemphigus and monoclonal gammopathy of unknown significance had been treated unsuccessfully with cyclophosphamide/dexamethasone and then with rituximab. When the monoclonal gammopathy progressed to multiple myeloma, the patient received treatment with cyclophosphamide/doxorubicin/dexamethasone but there was no clinical response. Second-line therapy with thalidomide/cyclophosphamide/dexamethasone combination led to severe exacerbation of the skin disorder. However, therapy with combination...

Ultrasound scanners have become routine in lot of disciplines, their use in dermatology is relatively new. A major focus in dermatology is the early detection of skin tumors, namely melanoma. This equipment is useful to set the diagnose and give the information about the tumor thickness, which is important for better therapy planning. The method is widely used for a therapeutical effect monitoring, for example of inflammatory diseases. It is possible to follow effects of corticosteroids on skin by ultrasound scanning and many more. Further possibilities of the method are investigated. The mostly used equipments work with the frequency of 20...

Granulomatous inflammations are chronic processes in which activated macrophages with epitheloid appearance and lymphocytes, rare plasma cells, predominate in the inflammatory exudate. Epitheloid macrophages may often fuse to form multinucleated cells of varying sizes, i. e. histiocytic aggregates, histologically characterized by the formation of granulomas.
