Side effects of methotrexate at low doses

MUDr. Alena Stumpfová

Dermatol. praxi. 2024;18(4):172-176 | DOI: 10.36290/der.2024.034

Methotrexate (MTX) is a folic acid antagonist with a broad spectrum of use in the treatment of (haemato)oncological, dermatological, rheumatological and other autoimmune diseases (E, B). Since 1971, it has been approved in the treatment of severe and generalized forms of psoriasis, and has also found its utilization in the treatment of other chronic skin diseases. Although it is a very effective drug and, given its variability of use, unique, its numerous adverse effects (AEs) are also known. Due to the lack of specific markers of MTX toxicity, their occurrence cannot be predicted. However, it is safe and well tolerated if certain dosing and treatment...

Primary cutaneous T-cell lymphomas - new therapeutical options

MUDr. Petra Fialová

Dermatol. praxi. 2024;18(4):178-184 | DOI: 10.36290/der.2024.035

Mycosis fungoides (MF) is the most common type of primary cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL). Sézary syndrome (SS) is a rare leukemic variant of CTCL. MF has a long course and is not easy to diagnose in the initial stages of the disease. Diagnosis at an early stage and initiation of therapy will increase the likelihood of achieving and maintaining a long-term disease free interval. Both in the treatment of MF and for patients with SS, we now have new therapeutic options that may prolong their overall survival.

MUDr. Martina Skařupová Kubicová

Dermatol. praxi. 2024;18(4):186-189 | DOI: 10.36290/der.2024.036

Every year in the spring months, general paediatricians encounter an increased number of exanthematous infectious diseases, particularly the fifth disease and sixth disease and chickenpox. The treatment of these diseases is only symptomatic in the vast majority of cases. In children with typical manifestations of these diseases, I supplement the classic treatment with homeopathics which are beneficial for the immune system and a more rapid recovery.

Burn injuries often result in long-term sequelae, including the formation of scars, which can significantly impact patients' physical and psychological well-being. Managing burn scars is a complex endeavor that requires a comprehensive approach encompassing both surgical and non-surgical interventions. Surgical techniques such as excision, grafting, and tissue expansion play a role in scar management, and aim to optimize function and cosmetic result. However, non-surgical modalities such as pressure garments, silicone-based products, laser therapy, and topical agents also have a vital role in scar reduction and remodeling. This article provides an...
