Ustekinumab in treating psoriatic arthritis

Ustekinumab is a fully human IgG1κ monoclonal antibody that inhibits interleukin 12 and 23 functions by binding to their p40 subunit. Ustekinumab is used in treating moderate and severe form of dermal psoriasis; however, a number of clinical studies have shown its effect on extradermal manifestations, particularly on the musculoskeletal system. PSUMMIT-1 and -2 clinical studies in patients with psoriatic arthritis have demonstrated good properties of ustekinumab for inducing a rapid therapeutic response with a good safety profile, and allowed registration for this indication as well.

Atopic dermatitis is a very common disease. Most commonly it affects sucklings and young children. In the article, epidemiology, ethiopathogenesis, clinical picture and treatment of atopic dermatitis are described. Onychomycosis

Onychomycosis is a mycotic infection of a nail apparatus by microscopic fungi. Clinical presentation is discoloration, hyperkeratosis and detachment of nail plate from the nail. The disease could cause serious complication in immunocompromised patients. The main diagnostic methods are KOH preparation, fungal cultivation and eventually histology. Systematic therapy is still the most effective therapy in combination with debridement. Recently laser therapy is used in some clinics. One of the possible approaches could be photodynamic therapy, which is not used yet and other studies are needed.

Serious form of rosacea in 32 years old patient

The case of a 32 years old patient with an erythematoteleangiectatic and a papulopustulous forms of rosacea accompanied with serious ocular problems is reported. Skin problems were present for 1,5 year. In the beginning of problems the patient herself used local corticoid for 3 months. Following treatment with local metronidazol was without any effect. The patient had no therapy in the last 6 months. Because of suspicion of rheumatoid arthritis she used peroral corticoids for 2 months, above mentioned diagnosis was not validated. Porphyria cutanea tarda

Porphyria cutanea tarda is often neglected in the differential diagnosis despite of its frequent occurrence. Untreated porphyria cutanea tarda can lead to serious complications in form of a hepatic lesion up to the hepatocellular carcinoma. Purpose of this article is to remind of the issue of this pathological unit, especially its diagnostic algorithm and therapy with a description of the typical case.
